The Youth Media Communications Club empowers youth by encouraging creative communication, media production, and community-building focused on relevant wellness-related issues.
Members of this club at AC Reynolds Middle School meet weekly to plan and produce the Reynolds Rocket Review. Club members film at the WNCCMC as well as with field gear out of studio. Club members highlight relevant issues and strive to build community through creative media production.
This club was also established to bridge the gap between county and city schools and to develop community relationships and mentoring opportunities.
OUR GOALS
•Promote wellness and local wellness initiatives (promote the benefits of purchasing locally grown produce and locally farmed agricultural products).
•Develop leadership skills by developing mentoring connections with local business owners, non-profits, and community leaders.
•Develop videography and editing skills •Promote long-term positive change for local school communities in Western North Carolina.
•Produce quality programming to air daily on city and county educational channels as well as the local public access channel.
OUR NEEDS
•Local businesses, non-profits, and community leaders to donate time (1) to mentor students and (2) to be interviewed for a variety of filming projects on relevant topics such as bullying, exercise, racism, internet safety, nutrition, etc).
•Local businesses to donate (1) editing equipment, including MacPro Book laptops, external hard drives, Final Cut Pro editing software, Sony mini DV tapes, camera(s), lighting equipment, and (2) money to cover incidental expenses.
